About this title:

Synopsis: The debut of an exciting new mystery series featuring a funny, but cynical television producer turned amateur sleuth.

The cause of death is "undetermined," but the cops peg Chicago television producer Kate Conway as the main suspect when her soon-to-be ex-husband, Frank, is found dead. To make matters worse-and weirder- Frank's new girlfriend suddenly wants to be friends.

Happy for the distraction, Kate throws herself into a new work assignment for the television program Missing Persons: the story of Theresa Moretti, a seemingly angelic young woman who disappeared a year earlier. All Kate wants is a cliché story and twenty-two minutes of footage, but when the two cases appear to overlap, Kate needs to work fast before another body turns up-her own.

From the Author: I used the reality (good and bad) of my years as a television producer to create Kate Conway. I wanted her to have bills to pay, in-laws to deal with, and friends she can't always count on. With just enough humor to keep her sane. Kate isn't perfect, but she isn't as tough as she pretends to be. She'd lie in a heartbeat, but she'd feel bad about hurting a friend. She still loves her late husband, still hates him, still misses him - and can't seem to get five minutes to herself to figure it out.

Once I had the idea I wrote the first draft in ten weeks. Kate and the other characters seemed so alive and the story poured out of me - often I'd get up at three in the morning because a scene had grabbed hold and wouldn't let go until I'd written it.

I don't always like Kate, or agree with her choices, but I admire her grit, her reluctant determination, and her willingness to help someone even though what she really wants is to sit on her couch and eat take-out.

I love this book, and I hope you will too.
