About the Author: Syd Mead, born in St. Paul Minnesota, in 1933, graduated from the Art Center School of design in 1959 after serving 3 years in the US Army. Syd Mead was hired by the advanced auto design studio of Ford Motor Co. while still in school to create concept designs for the futuristic show cars the other designers would look to for inspiration. Syd left Ford Mo Co after only two years to begin working on his own for such clients as Raymond Loye, US Steel, Phillips, and eventually every major studio in Hollywood.
