About this Item
Eleventh edition. Issues of the The Spectator from 1710-1714 published in book form in 8 volumes. Hardcover book x 8. Full leather with gilt titles and decorations to spines, & red edges. h: 16.5cm. Each book begins with a dedication to a different eminent person from anoymous writers ('The Spectator'), apart from volume seven which bears the name Richard Steele. The only illustrations are some engraved decorative borders and head and tail pieces, and the publisher's sign. Fair condition overall : the text is complete and readable, the pages mostly good if slightly tanned (diffuse browning rather than foxing apart from some foxing to ends); there are occasional marks and spots to the text pages; the endpapers are mostly spotted. Covers generally worn and rubbed with much gilding and titles missing; volume I has both boards detached (present); the page gatherings of all volumes are well held however. Each volume has an old bookplate to the prelims. Joseph Addison Richard Steele. Seller Inventory # 19651
