Esta es la primera novela del autor. Su importancia es trascendental pues abrió un ciclo de modernidad en la narrativa peruana. A la par, con otras obras de diversos autores de Latinoamérica, dio inicio al llamado "Boom latinoamericano". Ha tenido múltiples ediciones y ha sido traducida a decenas de idiomas. Cortes tostados. Conserva la etiqueta original de adquisición de la emblemática librería de Barcelona, ya desaparecida, "Áncora y Delfín". Sobrecubierta y cubierta con leves pérdidas y alguna pequeña rotura. When The Time of the Hero was first published in Peru in 1962, it was considered so scandalous that a thousand copies were burned in an official ceremony at the Leoncio Prado Military Academy. That same year, the book received the Biblioteca Breve Prize, an award given to the best work of fiction in the Spanish language. It was later filmed by Peruvian director Francisco Lombardi.
