Unsigned owner's bookplate.

(1st Random House) Remainder mark at page top. Sturdy book, black cloth spine, black boards, very bright gilt lettering and borders on spine, 208 pages plus biographical note. DJ glossy and colorfully designed, photo of Angelou at top back with praise for her books from James Baldwin, Shana Alexander and William McPherson. DJ has very tiny tear at top front tip. Near Very Fine DJ/Near Very Fine book.

1st Edition Hardcover with Dust jacket. Copy in inscribed to Connie Martinson (Talks Books Host) on 4/2/86 the year of issue but with an error to the recipients name. It was signed to Carol, and Ms. Angelou's inscription apologizes for the error correcting it to Connie. A few pages had been dog-eared, two with small ink marks and the last two pages have notes unfortunately in ink presumably by Ms. Martinson in preparation for her interview with Angelou. Otherwise, copy is clean, binding is tight, and jack shows just the slightest bit of yellowing from age and handling wear.

Book and dust jacket solid VG condition. Dust jacket now in Brodart. First Random House Edition stated. No remainder marks. Price not clipped. Signed in blue ink on pre-title page, "Richard, joy! Maya Angelou, 4/86."

First 1997 edition, as stated on copyright page, with number line from 2-9. Signed by Angelou on title page. Book and dust jacket fine.

This book is in excellent, unused or very gently-used condition. There are no attached bookplates or embossed seals. Sharp corners, no obvious scuffs or rubs. There are little to no scratches/marks to the gilded page-edging (see photos).
