Retains two blank original endpages at front and rear. Dampstaining to the last 1/3 of the text appears to be from two discrete damp events. A heavy tea colored toning across the lower front corner of the last 90 pages and a ligheter tea colored damp stain over the lower 1/2 of the page of the last 100 or so pages. Toning and foxing to the text block. Contents complete. Sold as is with all faults. Poor to Fair only.

Â Illustrated with frontispieces and one plate to each volume. Collated complete. Â This biography of Napoleon was written by Barry E. O'Meara, Napoleon's surgeon who accompanied him to Saint Helena, an Island to which he was exiled by the British. The work provides details on Napoleon's reflections and thoughts during this time. The work also accused Sir Hudson Lowe of mistreating Napoleon. Bound in half calf with marbled paper on the boards. Externally generally smart with rubbing to the boards, joints and extremities, bumping to the extremities of the boards, marks to the boards and spines and fading to the spines. The odd spot and mark to the endpapers with a past owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper and hinges starting to 'Vol II'. Internally generally firmly bound with front blank starting to 'Vol II'. Pages age toned with spotting and occasional marks. Good.

Â Following the publication of this work, Sir Hudson Lowe, Governor of St. Helena, was charged with mistreating the former emperor. Â Illustrated with a frontispiece and portrait of Napoleon to vol. I, and a frontispiece to vol. II. In half calf binding over marbled boards. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, rubbed to boards and spine. Front free endpaper vol I loose but present, inscribed with previous ownership ink inscription, undated. Captain Eminson's inscription to title page and first leaf of text. Internally, firmly bound.
