The dating of this book is a mystery. It looks/feels like a 1962 book but has 'Twelfth Impression' and an ISBN number on the reverse of the title -page, along with the date 1962. This cannot be right, of course, as ISBN's were not used at that date. I notice that the printing of 'Twelfth Impression' and an ISBN number' are in a different font/size, which would suggest that the unbound sheets were being bound ten years or so after the original publication date, which would make this a First edition, 12th. Impression. Someone will know the correct situation here. The book is very clean and tight, with a lovely Gorey decoration on the front in two tone green. Another pointer to a first edition, as later printings had clear green covers. No insc. Corners bumped. Blind stamp of Barbara J Gregory on the ffep. The wrapper is price-clipped and has a little edge-wear and the light 'shadow' of a sticker across the bottom of the spine, else VG.64pp. For the Gorey addict, the illus. are first class. Size: 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall

First edition (? ). Illustrated by Edward Gorey. Quarto. Illustrated in blue, black, and white. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some nicking to the edges, and sunning to the spine. This is a variant dust jacket with a price of $2.75 on the front flap of the dust jacket, Toledano B17a calls for $2.95 on the front flap of the first edition, but we find it strange that the price would be lowered on later printings. An odd find.
