"First with the Most" - FORREST (SIGNED ASSOCIATION COPY)
by (Civil War) HENRY, Robert Selph
Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 1944. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 X 8 3/4 Inches. 558 PP. Important biography of Nathan Beford Forrest. Stated First Edition on the copyright page. Listed in "In Tall Cotton". Signed and inscribed, "For the one who started all this - so long ago - Alice Eloise Stockell. With the affectionate regard of its perpetrator - Robert Henry / October, 31 / 1944" directly on the half title-page. Alice was part owner of the "Stokes and Stockell" bookstore on the corner of 5th and Union in Nashville. She was a noted local authority on Forrest and obviously had a little something to do with the writing of this book (per the inscription at least). Original maroon cloth a bit rubbed and worn at hinges and top of spine . A very appealing copy of a book notriously difficult to find in high-grade condition.
