OLIVER TWIST, or The PARISH BOY'S PROGRESS. A Drama, in Three Acts.; 6 Plates of Characters, 13 Scenes, 1 Set Piece, 3 Wings, Total 23 Plates. Pollock's Juvenile Drama. Adapted Only for Pollock's Characters and Scenes
Dickens, Charles [1812 - 1870]
Publisher: At His... Format: Softcover

16 pp. Lacks the accompanying plates, et al. 16mo. 6-1/4" x 4" Here offered the text booklet that came with Pollock's mock stage production of Oliver Twist. Estimated date of publication varies from authority to authority. VanderPoel gives c. 1839; Gimbel, 1860, and the copy auctioned by Christies, for the Self sale, was described as "Post - 1876". We subscribe to this last, as Redington's theatrical publishing firm was taken over by Benjamin Pollock in 1876 after Pollock married Redington's daughter. Pollock reissued many of Redington's plays with his own imprint (as did many of the publishers) until his death in 1937. Cf. Speaight, G. History of the English Toy Theatre (1969 ed.), p. 149, 191-192. NB. Adair Fitz-Gerald mentions this work of Pollock's, pp. 115 - 116, but does not proffer a date of publication. Age-toning to paper. Very Good Plus. Lacking the brownish pink wrappers described by Gimbel. Now housed in an archival mylar sleeve 1st printing thus. Cf. Gimbel C35; Suzanette Catalogue, E.35; VanderPoel B109(1), all for the entire publication.

OLIVER TWIST; or, The Parish Boy's Progress
[Dickens, Charles. 1812 - 1870]. By "Boz"
Publisher: Published by... Date published: 1839 Format: Hardcover

[4], 367, [1 (blank)] pp. 8vo. 8-7/8" x 5-3/8" For many years, it was thought the 1846 Bradbury & Evans edition was the first 'octavo' edition (cf. Eckel, p. 62). This Galignanai edition obviously deserves consideration for that appellation, though it's scarcity undoubtedly contributed to the 1846's notation as such in the Dickens' literature. Not in Eckel, Gimbel, or VanderPoel. General wear. Foxing. 1892 newspaper article [The Origin of the Artful Dodger] affixed to front paste-down. Last leaf of text beginning to detach at top. Withal, a VG copy. Period half vellum binding with marbled paper boards. Black leather spine label
