Decorative gray cloth stamped in black, gray and gilt. Spine is dulled, with moderate, uneven chipping at crown, few tiny soil marks to cloth, light wear at tips of two corners, else a very good copy. Edith OE. Somerville (1858-1949) was born in Corfu, and raised in County Cork. Violet Florence Martin (1862-1915) was born in West Galway. The two met in 1886, and their literary collaboration lasted until 1915, ending with the death of V. F. Martin. Both worked for woman suffrage in Ireland, and Somerville continued to write under their joint pseudonym, believing in Martin's continued spirit-connection [see Blain et al. 'Feminist Companion...' p. 1006].

Contemporary owner name inked on front fly, faint stains on front cloth board, near fine, quite bright, copy, with the text very fresh and clean.
