A gorgeous brown leather hardback book with gilt titles on the spine. This wonderful book is in first class condition and looks like it's hardly been used or read. No dust jacket. Normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Its the collector's edition first published by The Easton Press in 1975, First Edition. 366 pages all intact, nice tight binding. All pages, text and illustration are in fantastic, clean, readable order. The endpapers are silk lined and the edges of all papers are gilt edged, with bronze coloured silk ribbon bookmark. This book is printed on archival quality paper especially milled for this edition. It is acid-neutral and conforms to all guidelines established for permanence and durability by the Council of Library Resources and the American National Standards Institute. Stories by Edgar Allan Poe began to appear in newspapers and magazines in 1837. Tales of Intrigue and Arabesque, his first collection was issued in 1840: and his second: Tales, in 1845. Both collections included some of the stories republished in this selection, which was first issued by The Limited Editions Club with the aquatints by William Sharp (copyright 1941 and 1969 by The Cardavon Press.) The present Collector's Edition is published by advance reservation exclusively for subscribers to the Easton Press collection of the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written. The frontispiece portrait was specially commissioned and, like other special contents, is copyright 1975 by The Easton Press. Printed and Bound in the United States of America. First Tudor Edition, beautifully illustrated with eight full color tipped-in plates and many black-and-white plates and illustrations. Near-fine with tiny bookseller label at bottom corner of flyleaf, otherwise bright and clean. In a very good plus dust jacket with some light chipping to the extremities, faint crease to front panel, and a clear archival tape repair at the spine fold on the reverse. A very attractive copy.

Covers show some edge wear. Bottom of spine rubbed. Scratching to covers. There is about 4 inches of separating at rear endpaper. In 1923, Brentano's & Harrap Publishers, published this edition with eight additional color plates by Harry Clarke. (Bowe: The Life and Work of Harry Clarke pg 300). First American edition with Harry Clarke's illustrations.

First trade edition. Hard cover published by George C. Harrap and Co. in 1935. Black covers with gilt lettering and design of a skeleton with a knife on front and gilt lettering and designs on spine. The gilt is still bright. Bottom corners of covers and ends of spine have some wear, and upper corners of covers have some rubbing. Spine is loose from binding. Back cover is slightly bowed. Bottom edge of pages has some soiling by corner. Top edge of pages has some stains. Endpapers are black and white with skeletal designs. The tissue guards for the color illustrations are intact. Book is in good plus condition. Dust jacket is in a protective mylar cover and is fully intact. It is not price-clipped (shows 21/- in bottom front corner), has some tanning at bottom of spine, and some wear at top of spine and at upper corners. The front side edge of DJ has a small nick.
