Wilmette, IL: Frederick J. Drake & Co., 1949. Hardcover. Very good. Oblong quarto, 8.25 x 11 inches, 126pp. Black cloth boards, 2" split to cloth at the bottom front joint, front hinge with Japanese paper reinforcement. Spine ends and corners bumped. Ownership marks to both pastedowns, "Property of H. Ogata." Imported from the Hawaiian islands, this copy has some residual mustiness that's drying out. Tip of the bottom corner has a dark blue ink stain persisting about 30 pages. Rare on the market. A practical reference, copiously illustrated with photos for techniques and many specimen alphabets, including a then-unusual and now-conspicuous "Synthetic Chinese" script alongside many stylish Art Deco and mid-century modernist styles.
