SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET
by Harrer, Heinrich
New York: E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc. 1954 BOMC, 1954. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. Octavo, hardcover, orange spine, black boards, edgeworn at spine extremities and corners, front hinge cracked. Reading copy only. No dj. 314 pp. Many illustrations. A great book about the independent Tibet, and its being swallowed into China! ! Translated by Richard Graves. Harrer was a German interned in British India from the beginning of World War II. Finally in 1943 he escaped from that internment and, following a lengthy travel across 'the roof of the world' he wound up in Lhasa penniless and in rags. Met with kindness in Lhasa, he was not expelled back to India. Instead he was allowed to stay in Tibet, to work for the government (he spoke passable Tibetan by this time) and to tutor the young Dalai Lama. When the Chinese Communists invaded Tibet in 1950 Harrer was forced to part from this lonely, able and affectionate youth. 314 pp.

Seven Years In Tibet
by Heinrich Harrer
London England: The Reprint Society. Good/Poor. 1955. Reprint. Cloth. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall Hardback Translated from the German by Richard Graves. Introduction by Peter Fleming. On this expedition to Nanga Parbat I succumbed to the magic of the Himalayas. The beauty of these gigantic mountains, the immensity of the lands on which they look down, the strangeness of the people of India - all these worked on my mind like a spell. Since then many years have passed, but I have never been able to cut loose from Asia. How all this came about, and what it led to, I shall try to describe in this book, and as I have no experience as an author I shall content myself with the unadorned facts book very good. Illustrated.some wear and tear and piece of spine missing from D/J (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.) .

Seven Years In Tibet
by Heinrich Harrer
London England: The Reprint Society. Very Good/No Jacket. 1955. Reprint. How all this came about, and what it led to, I shall try to describe in this book, and as I have no experience as an author I shall content myself with the unadorned facts. Illustrated. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.) .

Seven Years in Tibet
by Harrer, Heinrich

London: R. Hart-Davis, 1953. Hardcover. Good Condition. No dust jacket. Contents unmarked and uncreased. Bindings firm and tight, spine intact. A good used copy with no major flaws. Publisher's note: "In the summer of 1939, climber and Olympic ski champion Heinrich Harrer was in India when war was declared. He found himself a prisoner of the British and was interned at the POW camp at Dehra-Dun. With the Himalayas right in front of him the thought of escaping through the mountain passes was very attractive. With few possessions and little money, Harrar escaped in 1944 and succeeded in reaching Tibet only to discover that Tibetians did not welcome strangers. Eventually, after great hardship and some remarkable experiences, he reached the forbidden city of Lhasa where he became tutor and friend of the present Dalai Lama, who was then a child. Harrar left the country seven years later when the Red Chinese invasion forced the Dalai Lama to flee." 288 pp.. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Travel & Places; China--Tibet Autonomous Region; Travel; Harrer, Heinrich, 1912-2006; Bstan-'dzin-rgya-mtsho, Dalai Lama XIV, 1935-; Escaped prisoners of war; Austria; Buddhism; Manners and customs; Add. Inventory No: 20221103ABX082003. .
