  • Date published: 1834
Two volumes bound in one. [3]-20; 55pp., plus thirty-six and thirty-two (of thirty-four) plates. Large folio. Modern half green morocco and marbled boards, spine gilt. Titlepage to second volume with loss along fore edge and several small closed tears; laid down on later paper. Several leaves with later tape repairs. Light dampstaining to top edge. Light scattered foxing and soiling. A good, solid copy. First edition of this excellent architectural reference, with much on carpentry and joinery, highlighted by the plates representing different styles and examples of molding, structure, decoration, roofs, domes, etc. The attractive plates were produced by the prolific lithographic firm of D.W. Kellogg (later Kellogg & Comstock), which ranked only behind Currier & Ives in their output of decorative prints. An important American architectural work. AMERICAN IMPRINTS 24936. HITCHCOCK 590.

"The most complete of any of the Greek Revival builder's guides, this work leaves no stone unturned.it was an important book and was favored by builders, probably because of its large scale, folio-sized plates of the orders. Practically all copies found have been given hard use, a sign of the book's popularity." Scattered, mostly marginal foxing, house plates clean, rubbing to extremities and covers, backstrip worn head and foot. Contemporary calf over boards. Two Vols. in one. Very good
