The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The prior owner wrote their name on the first end paper. The pages are otherwise clean with no soiling or tears. The copyright page states 1977 Tenth Printing. This is definitely Not a former library book. The dust jacket shows a couple of short (one-inch) closed tears along the edges, very light soiling and a four-inch closed tear from the top edge of the front to the middle of the middle of the DJ (No Chips). I have placed the DJ in a fresh mylar jacket and this book looks and feels great! We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

First English edition (the American edition was first published in 1927). Octavo. 61pp. Paper-covered boards with publisher's printed label on front cover and spine. Small owner's name dated 1930 on front flyleaf, endpapers have faint red stain at fore-edge, text moderately foxed, fading on fore-edge of both boards, spine has started to split at one edge, not quite very good. The American edition is sub-titled "Seven Negro Sermons in Verse" and is illustrated by Aaron Douglas. This English edition is not illustrated. It is however, very scarce.
