The first edition, first impression of this scarce work in the publisher's original pictorial boards with illustrated end papers and the original unclipped dust wrapper. Previous owner's ink inscription to the half title page. Errol Le Cain (1941-1989) was a British animator and children's book illustrator. He was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal for Hiawatha's Childhood in 1984. Â This retelling of the classic tale of King Arthur and Excalibur was Le Cain's first published book. Working on this book convinced him that he wanted to make a career from children's book illustration. Â Accompanied with beautifully illustrated end papers, an illustrated title page and nineteen further colour illustrations in the text. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original pictorial boards, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, in lovely condition, with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains bright and smart, with light shelf wear to the folds and a little chipping to the upper extremities, including a small closed tear to the front of the wrap. The odd spot to the reverse of the wrap. Fine.
