Zhongguo jin shi bao dao, 1687-1692. Chinese translatiom of Louis Lecomte: Un jesuite a Pekin. In Chines letters! Original softcover, like new! 394 S. isbn 7534734355 - Louis le Comte (1655-1728), also Louis-Daniel Lecomte, was a French Jesuit who participated in the 1687 French Jesuit mission to China under Jean de Fontaney. He arrived in China on 7 February 1688. He returned to France in 1691 as Procurator of the Jesuits. His Nouveau mémoire sur l'état présent de la Chine, which was published in Paris in 1696, caused great debate within the Chinese Rites Controversy. Le Compte was one of the great number of tremendously erudite Jesuits who originally went to China on as missionaries, aiming to convert the Chinese to Christianity through first converting the members of the court. Fascinating, very clear text in the form of letters written to various important personages in Europe.
