This the first edition of the massive G&C Merriam Company's unabridged english dictionary (2620pp of word definitions plus "A Reference History of the World" (153pp) at back of book; bound in rich dark brown leather with gold lettering on spine and front cover; thumbtabs; printed on india paper (very thin) so book is only 3" thick which is less than half the thickness of the usual version printed on standard paper. Binding is sound, but book has many minor to moderate defects that do not affect its functionality. No marks or writing. Dark greenish heavy duty cloth cover, gold lettering on spine and front cover, gilded upper page edges, published by G & C Merriam Company, copyright 1926, 1927 prinitng, thumbtabbed, 2620pp, India (very thin) paper so book is only 3" thick. and much lighter than versions with regular paper. Cover moderately rubbed mainly on edges; gold lettering just slightly dull but clearly legible, cover cloth worn through at corners, a little fraying at base of spine. Front endpaper mostly split but front cover held rather firmly by undelying cloth mesh; rear endpaper just slightly starting to split; binding sound. First 10 or so pages a little wrinkled; title page and contents page a little torn, 2" of bottom corner of titpe page torn off and laid in. All thumbtab labels present. No marks or writing. Fully functional. Except for the first few pages, the rest of the pages are like new. Covers generally good, though with a little wear at spine-ends (rubbing and flattening), and a small point of damage to spine of vol.
