M Train
by Patti Smith
An Unforgettable odyssey of a legendary artist, told through the prism of the cafe's and haunts she has worked in around the world. It is a book Patti Smith has described as "a roadmap to my life." M Train begins in the tiny Greenwich Village cafe' where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, and writes in her notebook. Through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, and across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations, we travel to Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul in Mexico, to a meeting of an Artic explorer's society in Berlin: to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New York Rockaway that Smith acquires just before Hurricane Sandy hits; and to the graves Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima.

M TRAIN
by Smith, Patti
U.S.A.: Alfred A Knopf, Inc., 2015. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. New/New. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Signed by author in black fountain ink directly on title page. M TRAIN begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, and writes in her notebook. Through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, we travel to Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul in Mexico; to the fertile moon terrain of Iceland; to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New York's Far Rockaway that Smith acquires just before Hurricane Sandy hits; to the West 4th Street subway station, filled with the sounds of the Velvet Underground after the death of Lou Reed; and to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima. Woven throughout are reflections on the writer's craft and on artistic creation. Here, too, are singular memories of Smith's life in Michigan and the irremediable loss of her husband, Fred Sonic Smith. Braiding despair with hope and consolation, illustrated with her signature Polaroids,M TRAIN is a meditation on travel, detective shows, literature, and coffee. It is a powerful, deeply moving book by one of the most remarkable multiplatform artists at work today. Smith's previous memoir, JUST KIDS, was the winner of the 2010 National Book Award for Nonfiction. Pristine, new, unread, first edition, first printing, in brown cloth boards in new, mylar-protected dust jacket. Book will be carefully packaged to ensure arrival in described condition..L162/ OFC 1F/ OFC 2R

A Book of Days ~ SIGNED FIRST/FIRST
by Smith, Patti
SIGNED FIRST EDITION FIRST PRINTING. Book is brand new and never read. Signed by the author to publisher's specially bound page. First edition, first printing, full number line present. Dust jacket hand wrapped in protective archival grade Mylar for many worry free years of reading/collecting! NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ⢠A deeply moving and brilliantly idiosyncratic visual book of days by the National Book Awardâwinning author of Just Kids and M Train, featuring more than 365 images and reflections that chart Smith's singular aestheticâinspired by her wildly popular Instagram.ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Variety, Pitchfork, PopSugarIn 2018, without any plan or agenda for what might happen next, Patti Smith posted her first Instagram photo: her hand with the simple message "Hello Everybody!" Known for shooting with her beloved Land Camera 250, Smith started posting images from her phone including portraits of her kids, her radiator, her boots, and her Abyssinian cat, Cairo. Followers felt an immediate affinity with these miniature windows into Smith's world, photographs of her daily coffee, the books she's reading, the graves of beloved heroesâWilliam Blake, Dylan Thomas, Sylvia Plath, Simone Weil, Albert Camus. Over time, a coherent story of a life devoted to art took shape, and more than a million followers responded to Smith's unique aesthetic in images that chart her passions, devotions, obsessions, and whims. Original to this book are vintage photographs: anniversary pearls, a mother's keychain, and a husband's Mosrite guitar. Here, too, are photos from Smith's archives of life on and off the road, train stations, obscure cafés, a notebook always nearby. In wide-ranging yet intimate daily notations, Smith shares dispatches from her travels around the world. With over 365 photographs taking you through a single year, A Book of Days is a new way to experience the expansive mind of the visionary poet, writer, and performer. Hopeful, elegiac, playfulâand complete with an introduction by Smith that explores her documentary processâA Book of Days is a timeless offering for deeply uncertain times, an inspirational map of an artist's life.

M Train
by Patti Smith
SIGNED, FIRST EDITION, NEW, COLLECTIBLEWe are selling an excellent new copy of Patti Smith's (Winner of the National Book Award) M Train. Binding is new. Dust jacket is new and now is protected in Mylar. Signed by the award winning author, Patti Smith, on the title page. First edition printing. From the National Book Award-winning author of Just Kids: an unforgettable odyssey into the mind of this legendary artist, told through the prism of cafés and haunts she has visited and worked in around the world.M Train is a journey through eighteen "stations." It begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, and writes in her notebook. We then travel, through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations: from Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul in Mexico, to a meeting of an Arctic explorer's society in Berlin; from the ramshackle seaside bungalow in New York's Far Rockaway that Smith buys just before Hurricane Sandy hits, to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima. Woven throughout are reflections on the writer's craft and on artistic creation, alongside signature memories including her life in Michigan with her husband, guitarist Fred Sonic Smith, whose untimely death was an irremediable loss. For it is loss, as well as the consolation we might salvage from it, that lies at the heart of this exquisitely told memoir, one augmented by stunning black-and-white Polaroids taken by Smith herself. M Train is a meditation on endings and on beginnings: a poetic tour de force by one of the most brilliant multiplatform artists at work today. Woolgathering ~ SIGNED TO TITLE PAGE
by Smith, Patti
SCARCE SIGNED! Brand new, never read. SIGNED FIRST EDITION, second printing. Personally flat signed directly to the full title page. Not a tip in. Not a bookplate. Dust jacket hand covered in protective archival grade Mylar for years of worry free reading/collecting! This book is pristine. Opened only for Ms. Smith to sign. The National Book Award winner Patti Smith presents a treasure box of a childhood memoir about clear unspeakable joy and just the wish to know. A great book about becoming an artist, Woolgathering tells of a youngster finding herself as she learns the noble vocation of woolgathering, a worthy calling that seemed a good job for me. She discoversâ often at night, often in natureâ the pleasures of rescuing a fleeting thought. Deeply moving, Wool-gathering calls up our own memories, as the child glimpses and gleans, piecing together a crazy quilt of truths. Smith introduces us to her tribe, a race of cloud dwellers, and to the fierce, vital pleasures of cloud watching and stargazing and wandering. A radiant new autobiographical piece, Two Worlds (which was not in the original 1992 Hanuman edition of Woolgathering), and the author s photographs and illustrations are also included. Woolgathering celebrates the sacred nature of creation with Smith s beautiful style, acclaimed as glorious (NPR), spellbinding (Booklist), rare and ferocious (Salon), and shockingly beautiful (New York Magazine). Black-and-white illustrations

Just Kids: A National Book Award Winner ~ SIGNED TO TITLE PAGE
by Smith, Patti
NATIONAL BOOK AWARD WINNER! FIRST EDITION, later printing. Book is brand new and never read. Personally hand signed by Patti Smith directly to the full title page! NOT a tip in. NOT a bookplate. WINNER OF THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD"Reading rocker Smith's account of her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, it's hard not to believe in fate. How else to explain the chance encounter that threw them together, allowing both to blossom? Quirky and spellbinding." -- PeopleIt was the summer Coltrane died, the summer of love and riots, and the summer when a chance encounter in Brooklyn led two young people on a path of art, devotion, and initiation.Patti Smith would evolve as a poet and performer, and Robert Mapplethorpe would direct his highly provocative style toward photography. Bound in innocence and enthusiasm, they traversed the city from Coney Island to Forty-Second Street, and eventually to the celebrated round table of Max's Kansas City, where the Andy Warhol contingent held court. In 1969, the pair set up camp at the Hotel Chelsea and soon entered a community of the famous and infamous, the influential artists of the day and the colorful fringe. It was a time of heightened awareness, when the worlds of poetry, rock and roll, art, and sexual politics were colliding and exploding. In this milieu, two kids made a pact to take care of each other. Scrappy, romantic, committed to create, and fueled by their mutual dreams and drives, they would prod and provide for one another during the hungry years.Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy. It serves as a salute to New York City during the late sixties and seventies and to its rich and poor, its hustlers and hellions. A true fable, it is a portrait of two young artists' ascent, a prelude to fame.
