A little wear to extremities and occasional traces of foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 46 pages of plates, including title page of facsimile handwriting and 20 pages wood engravings in colour on rectos in sepia on versos, both with captions. Sketch book of Randolph Caldecott (1846-86), artist and book and magazine illustrator, with title page in facsimile handwriting. The subjects include domestic and family life, country pursuits and hunting, arranged by the four seasons. The engraver and colour printer, Edmund Evans (1826-1905) commissioned Caldecott's work from 1877 onwards. With Walter Crane and Kate Greenaway, Caldecott was one of the three great Victorian children's book illustrators.
