First edition. Small owner label of librarian Ruth Mortimer on rear pastedown, light edgewear, near fine in a slightly spine-sunned very good dust jacket with modest rubbing and a few small chips, creases and tears. A book of the actress's glamorous times in 1920s show biz leading to her struggle with alcoholism and eventual recovery, and basis for the 1955 film starring Susan Hayward.

Photos, 8.25 x 5.5, cloth backed boards, 347 pp, covers heavily worn, extremities bumped and fraying, spine a little cocked, hinges loose, front flys with some staining, pp worn and toned, front with old Hudson's bookseller label inside rear cover. SIGNED BY LILLIAN ROTH on half-title page.

Roth agrees to revised terms on the filming of her biography "I'll Cry Tomorrow". The 1955 film starred Susan Hayward and Eddie Albert. Roth (1910-1980) was an American singer and actress.

347 pages. Jacket toned, and with shallow chips to extremities, creased at price on front flap - now in a removable archival sleeve. This copy has the Popular Library sticker to the half title, with the author's signature on facing on verso of front endpaper. As well, fastened with a paper clip to front endpaper is the typed letter signed, as seen in photo. Save for rust from the paperclip, contents clean and unmarked. Binding is sound.

Reprint. Inscribed presentation copy from the author to Maurice Chevalier. With Chevalier's hand corrected seven page typescript for his introduction to the French edition and a hand written, heartfelt letter from Roth to Chevalier. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Photographically illustrated front and rear endpapers. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents with toning of the paper stock are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper, which has a couple of tiny chips at the head of the slightly faded spine. Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the half title "To Maurice / There are no words to / describe my admiration / lent as you taught me / 25 years ago. / Je suis très content / d'etre avec ce soir / and always / Lillian Roth / N.Y. 1928 - Calif 1930 - N.Y. 1955". A superb association copy of Roth's autobiography describing the pressures of fame and the actress's subsequent battle with mental illness and alcoholism. The basis for the 1955 Academy Award winning film of the same name, directed by Daniel Mann and staring Susan Hayward, Richard Conte and Eddie Albert. Roth was only 18 when in 1928 she first met Maurice Chevalier on the set of The Love Parade, her first film, in which they both had starring roles. From the library of Martin Stone.
