First published as this New Edition in 1944, this is a fourth impression of 1949. Edge wear, chipping, closed tears and small loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed with small loss, spine slightly browned, red cloth boards. Not price clipped (6s), gift inscription to ffep, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg copy. 146pp. The final book of Siegfried Sassoon's semi-autobiographical trilogy. It starts with his arrival at 'Slateford War Hospital' based on Craiglockhart War Hospital. The famous neurologist W. H. R. Rivers is a major character in the book, having a profound influence on Sassoon in real life. Sherston eventually returns to the army and is sent to Palestine and Ireland and finally the Western Front in France. A classic of English literature.
