The front endpaper has a little minor soiling, and there is just a hint of a spine slant to the book. The unrestored jacket has a chip at the top of the spine (not affecting any lettering), and a much smaller chip at the heel of the spine. The red lettering on the spine is slightly sunned, as compared to the bright red on the front panel. No names or other marking in or on the book, $2.50 price is present at the bottom of the front flap. A tight and clean copy of the first Mike Hammer novel.

Publisher's black cloth with red titles; 8vo 8 inches tall; 9-218 pages. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even age-toning. Minimal shelf handling wear with pushed spine tips. The dust jacket has the price of $2.50 intact; the jacket's front displays nicely with light edge wear, along the rear panel and spine a faint dampstain and a partial split at the spine edge. Older interior tape repairs on some of the perimeter. Now contained in a new clear Mylar sleeve.
