First edition ( thus). An exact facsimile edition of the 1947 first edition published by E.P. Dutton of this detective fiction classic. Reproduces all of the original interior pages as well as the binding and the striking and colourful dust jacket showing a man standing over the dead body of a beautiful woman. Slipcase duplicates the front jacket illustration and rear panel. Printed in an edition of 500 copies. Information card laid in. "FEL" ( First edition library) at base of rear jacket flap and a statement on the copyright page are the only indications that this is a FACSIMILE edition. While the author did sign a few of these copies, this copy is unsigned. However, LAID IN is an 3"x 5" file card (with Mickey Spilane typed below) SIGNED by the author .The VERY FINE book is in a VERY FINE jacket, in a NEAR FINE ( one scuff to front panel) slipcase. A terrific alternative to the very expensive first edition; though we have that in stock as well ! Inquiries always welcomed.

A very good minus copy bound in black paper-covered boards stamped brightly in red. With bumping to all corners. Very clean and tight throughout with the exception of several gray smudges in the margins of page 69. Scattered foxing to the top edges and light foxing to the rear paste-down. In a good dustjacket which is worn, lightly edge-rubbed and has small pieces missing at all the corners and at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a small pinky fingernail-sized piece missing at the top left corner of the spine where it meets the rear panel. Small triangular piece missing in the middle of the rear panel as well. With the original price of $2.50 at the bottom of the inside front flap. Laid in is a bookplate signed "Mickey Spillane". An attractive and striking first edition in dustjacket of Spillane's first book and the First Mike Hammer mystery. Over the corpse of his best friend, Mike Hammer swore that the killer would die as Jack had--slowly, torturously, with a .45 slug in his guts.
