First edition ( thus). An exact facsimile edition of the 1947 first edition published by E.P. Dutton of this detective fiction classic. Reproduces all of the original interior pages as well as the binding and the striking and colourful dust jacket showing a man standing over the dead body of a beautiful woman. Slipcase duplicates the front jacket illustration and rear panel. Printed in an edition of 500 copies. Information card laid in. "FEL" ( First edition library) at base of rear jacket flap and a statement on the copyright page are the only indications that this is a FACSIMILE edition. While the author did sign a few of these copies, this copy is unsigned. However, LAID IN is an 3"x 5" file card (with Mickey Spilane typed below) SIGNED by the author .The VERY FINE book is in a VERY FINE jacket, in a NEAR FINE ( one scuff to front panel) slipcase.
