Octavo, three volumes, boards. First hardcover editions. Complete "The Book of the Beast" series comprising THE ORPHAN (1980), THE CAPTIVE (1981) and THE BEAST (1982). "All three novels comprise an intriguingly conceived bildungsroman in which the growth from innocence to experience and notions of what it means to be human are explored from a provocative nonhuman viewpoint (which itself is becoming increasingly humanized). THE ORPHAN, in particular, is beautifully written, its lyrical prose and poetic imagery comparable to that of Ray Bradbury's short fiction" (Stefan Dziemianowicz). Barron, ed., Fantasy and Horror 6-346. Barron, ed., Horror Literature 4-279. A fine set in fine dust jackets. (#173333)
