Attractively bound in 3/4 crimson morocco over red marbled boards, gilt-stamped and decorated spines, top edges gilt (minor rubbing chiefly to extremities). Spines are bright and unfaded. Title on spines: John L. Stoddard's Lectures. Illustrated profusely throughout, with well over 1000 b/w photos.

A 10-volume set, with 5 supplementary volumes, of early 20th-century three-quarter leather bindings. Ornate gilt spines with gilt title and volume numbers; the gilt is bright, and the leather exhibits minimal rubbing at spine extremities. Three-quarter leather and marbled paper covered boards are clean; the leather is mostly smooth and supple with several volumes exhibiting leather scuffing/peeling at board corners. Bindings are tight and sound. All volumes have beautiful floral endpapers in silver gilt and green. These volumes are very well illustrated with hundreds of great period photographs of many countries. There are several colored photos throughout. These lectures and their accompanying photographs depict the towns and peoples of these numerous areas as they once existed.
