The front endpaper is printed with a facsimile of Mark Twain's handwriting "I am writing from the grave.". Volume II has a frontispiece photograph of Mark Twain dictating his autobiography at Dublin, New Hampshire in 1906, also with captioned tissue protective sheet. Condition near fine, corners and edges very slightly rubbed, else fine, contents very clean. The "A" variant first edition as described in BAL, 3537 which contains the two pages of advertisements at the rear of the second volume and the printed tissue leaves following each frontispiece.
