FIRST PRINTING of FIRST EDITION. Original olive tan covers with gilt lettering spine. The book has clean covers, no fading, minor rubbing tips of corners, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, solid binding. The original dust jacket has tiny loss at tips of flap folds, 2cm tear along bottom front flap fold, light wrinkle rear panel, fain soiling lower edge, original printed price still present on front flap corner. This is the best book for locating the best challenging climbs (not the hardest yo-yo's) in the UK -- the companion book, CLASSIC ROCK, locates other easier climbs and often less crowded climbs (we have copies of that book in stock.email me for more info.they keep selling faster than I can list them online). Book measures 283mm tall x 220mm, and has 220 pages, 168 b/w photos, route diagrams, index. Neate's bibliography of mountaineering books and several sellers indicate that the first printing was 1974 which is likely true. However, we have never encountered an example that has only 1974 on the copyright page. It seems that the publisher put the wrong copyright date on the first printing. We have stocked all of the subsequent printings of the book and they all indicate initial copyright of 1974 on the copyright page. The 2nd printing, dated 1975 on the copyright page and identified there in print as the "second impression" indicates a copyright date of 1974. The example offered here was certainly produced before the "second impression" which makes it by default the first impression with incorrect date of 1975 (see photo). There are no indications of prior printings on the copyright page of this example. Granada, the publisher, always included a printing history on the copyright page. We welcome any feedback from collectors or dealers who can prove that there was a first impression with 1974 printed on the copyright page. Thank you in advance. -------- Wilson has selected 57 of the finest rock climbs of the British Isles which are described by various climbers- Bonington, MacInnes, Burke, etc. Routes from easy to hard-severe. This is a big, heavy book so shipping to overseas destinations will be expensive, please inquire before ordering. PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
