Fourth printing of the First Edition (with number line on copyright page "5 7 9 10 8 6 4 8 9/9 0/0 01 02" with "Printed in the US 23 below. First American edition, October 1998" )/ First Edition (stated) of Book One of J.K. Rowling's now classic Harry Potter series. This copy has all the points of the TRUE FIRST US EDITION. Book is bound with red cloth spine with gold lettering and has the diamond pattern purple paper over boards. There is no volume number on the spine. The book has green end papers. The second Issue dust jacket has the original $16.95 price and there is no volume number on the jacket's spine (later printings stated the book number) . The blurb on the back cover of the dust jacket is from Pubisher's Weekly (the first issue had The Guardian review). The back cover of the DJ has 2 bar codes at the bottom, with the numbers 51695 above the smaller one. The "Harry Potter" in gold lettering on the front panel of the jacket is raised and there is no date on the title page. Child's marking with green marker on rear endpapers. Finger smudge at top right corner of page 113 which carries to foredge. Small area of discoloration at very bottom of spine cloth. Dust jacket protected with clear plastic cover. Clean, unmarked text. Record # 412288

First American edition, October 1998 stated with 7 9 10 8 to number line, seventh printing. 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 Book; binding tight with near fine gilt titles to spine, minor bumping to bottom rear edge else maroon cloth and purple diamond boards straight and clean; minimal bumping to edges else text free of marks, appears gently read. Dust jacket ($16.95) with Rowling and no number 1 to top spine, has mild bumping to spine ends and mild bumping and creasing to top front flap corner with mild label removal residue to inside front flap. Color bright and sharp. Under archival quality mylar cover. Photos upon request. Packed well and shipped in a sturdy box.

NY: Scholastic, 1998. Book Club Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 1998 Scholastic 1st (and possibly Book Club) Edition, 1st printing with a full number line. It is in F/F condition. Compared to the first printings, this is distinctly different in the following ways: 1. It has purple/black boards, not embossed boards 2. "JK Rowling" (not just Rowling) is at the top of the spine. 3. Similar to true 1st editions of the book, there is no number "1" inside a herald-like border on the spine of either the HB or the DJ. 4. On the copyright page is the full number line. 5. Unlike most book club editions, the DJ is priced at $17.95. The original price of the true first edition is $16.95 6. The DJ is flat-printed, not embossed as in the first pressings. Nonetheless, it appears to be a rare, early, unread edition and, therefore, a great value.

It is a very early printing, as it does NOT have the number "1" on either the hardback or dustjacket spine, as is found in later editions. The hardback is in Fine condition. There is no color fading, marks, stains, etc. There are minor bumps on the two front cornera. The text is clean with no marks. The dustjacket is in Fine condition. It is not price clipped ($ 16.95) with no real wear or loss of paper. The last name Rowling is at the top of the spine (instead of JK Rowling (a change that began with the 5th printing) A great copy at a fraction of the price of a first printing! ***Brenbooks specializes in first edition books made into films.***

Jacket is lightly worn along edges with a half inch tear from top corner of jacket back cover. Very small stain over "P" on jacket front cover, not affecing legibility. Spine is lightly bumped, but binding is tight. Inside is clean and unmarked.
