Dust jacket ($16.95) with Rowling and no number 1 to top spine, has mild bumping to spine ends and mild bumping and creasing to top front flap corner with mild label removal residue to inside front flap. Color bright and sharp. Under archival quality mylar cover. Photos upon request. Packed well and shipped in a sturdy box.

Stated first edition from October 1998, first printing (full number line) of the Book Club Edition (BCE). Hardcover with dust jacket (DJ). Book condition is Very Good, DJ condition is Very Good. The only notable cosmetic defect with this copy is that the edges of the textblock, interior of DJ, and pastedowns/flyleafs are lightly foxed and tanned. A smaller cosmetic issue is the fabric on the top and bottom of the spine of the hardcover is rubbed and lightly bumped. Otherwise, text is bright, clean and unmarked. Binding and hinges firm. Top/bottom of spine of DJ lightly bumped.

Early US printing. Book itself has all the signs of being a first printing, but the jacket is from a later printing, possibly a book club edition. Jacket is lightly worn along edges with a half inch tear from top corner of jacket back cover. Very small stain over "P" on jacket front cover, not affecing legibility. Spine is lightly bumped, but binding is tight. Inside is clean and unmarked.

Dust jacket is wrapped in a mylar covering, price uncut "$17.95", has mild wear along the edges, mild age toning along the head edge of the rear flap, and creasing along the fore corner flaps. Boards are slightly warped, has mild bending along the spine head and tail and the tail fore corners, mild age toning and wear along the head and tail edges. Textblock has a light smudge on page 197, pen signature from previous owner on the front end-page, light foxing along the head edge, and light stains on the fore edges. Signed flat by the illustrator Mary GrandPré on the title page. Shelved in Room C. 1393032. Special Collections.

This copy from the personal collection of Mary and Robert Brown, longtime owners of Books, Bytes, and Beyond bookstore in Glen Rock, NJ, who hosted Rowling for an event in October 1999, where this book was signed. Due to the strength of the forgery market, Rowling signatures are justifiably suspect. Authentically signed copies with clear provenance, like this one, are therefore more desirable.
