An Off-Broadway production soon moved to Broadway, where it received several awards and was nominated for a Tony, a Grammy and an Emmy. Tyler Perry's 2010 film version, For Colored Girls, stars Kimberly Elise, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Phylicia Rashad.
