This work is a candid portrait of a global leader who decided early in life to devote his intellectual and political gifts, and his extraordinary capacity for hard work, to serving the public. It shows Clinton's journey from Hope, Arkansas, to the White House; his college life, working as an intern for Senator William Fulbright; at Oxford, becoming part of the Vietnam War protest movement; at Yale Law School, campaigning on the grassroots level for Democratic candidates; back in Arkansas, running for Congress, attorney general, and governor. The book contains photographs, illustrations, and an index. This HARDCOVER copy is clean and solid. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, flat signed in blue ink on the title page. Appears as New in unread condition. This copy is the first state with the word "the failure of my life" in the Acknowledgments section.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2004. Brand New in a Brand New dust jacket. PERFECT condition. A gorgeous, pristine copy of the true First State/First Printing, with "First Edition" so stated, and the requisite typo: "for the failure of my life" in the last sentence of the Acknowledgements (later corrected to "failures"). Bright, shiny, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped ($35.00). No chips. No tears. No rubbing. Protected by a removable Brodart clear plastic sleeve. No owner's name or bookplate. Not a remainder. Pages are fresh and crisp -- obviously never read. Illustrated with 32 pages of photos. Bound in the original blue boards, lettered in shiny gilt on the spine, and with "William J. Clinton" blindstamped on the front cover. From the dust jacket: "President Bill Clinton's MY LIFE is the strikingly candid portrait of a global leader who decided early in life to devote his intellectual and political gifts, and his extraordinary capacity for hard work, to serving the public. It shows us the progress of a remarkable American, who, through his own enormous energies and efforts, made the unlikely journey from Hope, Arkansas, to the White House -- a journey fueled by an impassioned interest in the political process which manifested itself at every stage of his life: in college, working as an intern for Senator William Fulbright; at Oxford, becoming part of the Vietnam War protest movement; at Yale Law School, campaigning on the grassroots level for Democratic candidates; back in Arkansas, running for Congress, attorney general, and governor. We see his career shaped by his resolute determination to improve the life of his fellow citizens, an unfaltering commitment to civil rights, and an exceptional understanding of the practicalities of political life. We come to understand the emotional pressures of his youth -- born after his father's death; caught in the dysfunctional relationship between his feisty, nurturing mother and his abusive stepfather, whom he never ceased to love and whose name he took; drawn to the brilliant, compelling Hillary Rodham, whom he was determined to marry; passionately devoted, from her infancy, to their daughter, Chelsea, and to the entire experience of fatherhood; slowly and painfully beginning to comprehend how his early denial of pain led him at times into damaging patterns of behavior. President Clinton's book is also the fullest, most concretely detailed, most nuanced account of a presidency ever written -- encompassing not only the high points and crises but the way the presidency actually works: the day-to-day bombardment of problems, personalities, conflicts, setbacks, achievements. It is a testament to the positive impact on America and on the world of his work and his ideals. It is the gripping account of a president under concerted and unrelenting assault orchestrated by his enemies on the Far Right, and how he survived and prevailed.". First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. New condition/New dust jacket. 8vo. (vi), 957pp. + xliv (acknowledgements, index). Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

Signed First Edition, First Printing (and First State) of the presidential memoir and autobiography of President Bill Clinton. Signed by Bill Clinton on the title page. First state of the first printing with the phrase "failure of my life" uncorrected in the last sentence of the Acknowledgments section. Rather than lamenting utter failure of the life described in the 957 pages of text, President Clinton had intended to humbly bemoan the "failures of my life" (i.e. occasional, forgivable and understandable mistakes). The correction was made in the midst of the original first printing. 957 pages, illustrated. Has a removable "Book People Signed Edition" sticker on the front cover of the dust jacket. The original Book People price sticker has been left in place on the cover over the UPC bar on the back cover of the jacket. The price sticker includes a printed date 5/9/05 which we find a detail of possible interest. No sign of previous use.

New York: Knopf, 2004. First Printing. Hardcover. Good/very good. Publisher's dark blue boards in dust jacket. Inscribed, "To Celeste, Thanks, Bill Clinton" and with laid in invitation to "An Evening with President Clinton" from 2004 at the Omni William Penn in Pittsburgh, with original photo of Clinton signing this book for Celeste Behrend, who was then chair of the 14th Ward Democratic Club and a very active supporter of the Democratic Party. Good copy with some dampstaining evident to lower inner corner of text (mainly observed in the first hundred and last hundred pages, lesser so to the main body of the text) and some bleeding to bottom of dust jacket (inside) but it presents well from the outside. Nice Pittsburgh association copy!
