The second novel in the Harry Potter series. First U.S. edition, first printing, with first state dust jacket as per the following points. The copyright page has the full number line "10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1" followed by "9/9 0/0 1 2 3 4". Below the number line is "Printed in the U.S.A. 37", and below that is "First American edition, June 1999." Boards are blue with an embossed diamond pattern and a green cloth spine. The dust jacket has a price of $17.95. There are two diagonal bar codes on the left side of the back cover, and the smaller bar code bears the number "51795". The spine of both the book and dust jacket lack the YEAR 2 badge, and the silver lettering is raised on the dust jacket spine. Aside from some moisture damage (see below), this is an exceptionally clean copy that appears to be unread. There is no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. Spine is tight and crisp. Corners are square, and the boards are flat and true with minimal wear and some bumping to the lower spine. There is a small (1/4") light red dot on the bottom textblock edge and a few light smudges as well as a blue smudge on the upper textblock edge. Dust jacket is not price-clipped and shows only minor edge wear/bumping. As mentioned above, the book does have some moisture damage which has affected the top and bottom 3" of the back board and the inside of the dust jacket. The boards in the affected area have faded in color and have bled (green and blue) onto the inside of the back cover of the dust jacket as well as a bit onto the inside of the spine and rear flap. The jacket is also slightly, almost imperceptibly puckered in this same area. The front cover, front board, and spine cover appear unaffected by this, and it is important to note that neither the endpapers nor the textblock have been affected and remain in NEAR PERFECT condition. You would never know the damage was there unless you removed the dust jacket! ! Which means, of course, that this is an affordable, great-looking true first/first copy that will look excellent on a book shelf AND save you money! ! This highly collectible, very good/very good, first edition/first printing copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!
