New York: Scholastic, 1998. First Printing. Hardcover. As New/as new. Mary Grandpre. Octavo, 309 pages, black. boards, appears unread; in a mylar dj protector. The First Printing, with complete number line, in a revised state of the dust jacket with a variant of no price on the front flap, and with the numeral '1' at top of spine, and a new review from Publishers Weekly of dj. Also, the text on the lower dj flap tells of J. K. Rowling's hard times and prizes. Scholastic used the artwork of a single illustrator across the series: Mary Grandpre. To [Arthur A.] Levine this is part of the image and branding of the series. He noted ' ... I have always said this is a classic book. This is a book that you remember when you're thirty-five and you remember when you were ten. And that was the book that changed your life. There's continuity there - when you see that on your shelf you think, wow this is that book ...' ." - [ Errington A4(c) note - reporting 35,000 copies in the first printing]. NOTE: the first american illustrated deluxe edition, in deluxe hardback, appeared in November, 2015 - see Errington A4(i).
