This is a First American Edition, Second Printing of the first Harry Potter book. 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 number line on the copyright page. No number on dustjacket spine and a blurb by The Guardian on the back of dustjacket. $16.95 price on flap. Red cloth spine over purple patterned boards. Condition is Good in a Good+ dustjacket. Book has rubbing and wear to corners and edges with minor soiling to covers. Previous owner bookplate on front endpage and signature on half title. Soiling to top edge of text. Solid binding. Jacket is a little worn but is clean and bright with a closed tear at top rear corner and no other rips or tears. Mylar. Photos upon request.

This 1998 Scholastic 1st Edition, 4th Printing (# line to 4 and First American Edition statement present) is a very early printing. It also does not have the number "1" on the spine of either the hardback or the dustjacket. It still retains the J.K. Rowling at the top of the spine (which was changed to just "Rowling" with the 5th printing) Condition: It is in VeryGood+/Fine condition. The hardback has is just a bit of color fading on the bottom left edge of the front and bottom spine end. There are bumps on two front corners. The dustjacket is not price clipped and has no real wear at all but for a 5 mm repaired tear on the lower front flap fold. Extremely early (4th) printing of the First American Edition from Oct. 1998 of the very first book in this beloved series. For this printing, the Guardian quote on rear has been replaced with one by Publisher's Weekly, but the original $16.95 price, correct bar code on rear, "J.K." initials on spine, raised title in gilt on front cover, recessed author name in gilt on lower spine, & NO spine symbol. Hardcover book has the patterned purple paper & red quarter cloth-wrapped spine. Clean, collectible copy of this first book in the series. Record # 378745

Dust-jacket has Guardian blurb at top of rear panel, with two bar codes, and number 51696 above smaller bar code, at bottom of rear panel. A crisp, unmarked, collectable copy of the first printing of the First American edition, in first issue dust-jacket. A one owner copy.

Scholastic Press, October 1998. First Edition. Hardcover. Used - Very Good. This is a true American First edition. The copyright page has the full number line '1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 8 9/9 0/0 01 02'. Below the number line is 'Printed in the U.S.A. 23', and below that is 'First American edition, October 1998.' Boards are purple with an embossed diamond pattern, and a red cloth spine. The dust jacket has a $16.95 price on the upper corner of the front flap. The dust jacket back has a cream/light yellow bar code field with two bar codes in it, and the smaller bar code says '51695'. The dust jacket back also has a single quote from the Guardian saying 'Harry Potter could assume the near-legendary status of Ronald Dahl's Charlie, of chocolate factory fame.' Later issue dust jackets have a substitute quote from Publishers Weekly. The top spine of both the book and the dust jacket lists 'J.K. ROWLING' and lacks the 'YEAR 1' badge, and the gold lettering is raised on the spine of the dust jacket. Also includes as a bonus a True American First Edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The copyright page has the full number line '10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 9/9 0/0 1 2 3 4'. Below the number line is 'Printed in the U.S.A. 37', and below that is 'First American edition, June 1999.' Boards are blue with an embossed diamond pattern, and a green cloth spine. The dust jacket has $17.95 price on the upper corner of the front flap. The dust jacket back has a diagonal bar code field on the left side, and the small bar code within has the number '51795'. The spine on both the book and dust jacket lack the YEAR 2 badge that was introduced later, and silver lettering is raised on the spine of the dust jacket. This book, however, has a water damaged dust jacket visible on the inside of the jacket only. Some of the blue and green has run on the jacket. The bottom of the book also has some water damage.
