The Binding is off-white quarter cloth to beige boards, all of uniform color, with bright scarlet endpapers, the author's initials embossed in bright copper on the front board, bright copper title, etc., to spine, and all corners square and sharp. The first issue Dust Jacket (price of $21, date 10/92 on lower rear flap, and review comments by just Morrison, DeLillo and Ford) is flawless and bright, with the original price ($21.00) intact on the front flap, and a silver disk announcing the book won the Booker Prize. A main character in the story is loosely based on the real life László Ede Almásy de Zsadány et Törökszentmiklós, an Hungarian aristocrat, explorer and spy.
