A suspenseful tale of a shooting death and its aftermath set in Savannah, Georgia, a hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks. This copy has been SIGNED by the author on the front free endpaper and includes a leaflet for a special edition cookie tin. The number line runs "198765432, " but this is a later printing, as the true first printing states "first edition" beneath a number line running "24689753." This is a clean, crisp copy with no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. Spine is tight and crisp. Boards are flat and true, and the corners are square. The book itself would be graded much higher, as it is near perfect condition save for a tear along the gutter of the rear pastedown endpaper. Dust jacket is not price-clipped and is in beautiful shape with virtually no wear. The front cover of the dust jacket bears a gold sticker reading "Autographed Copy." This collectible, very good+ / fine copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Random House, New York (1994), 1994. Random House, New York (1994). Black paper over boards, silver lettering. Mint/Mint. Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative reads like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction. Berendt skillfully interweaves a hugely entertaining first-person account of life in this isolated remnant of the Old South with the unpredictable twists and turns of a landmark murder. Random House, New York First Edition, First printing, 01/13/1994 Signet by Author , Full #no's line 0-10 Mint as new,, signed by Author on front end paper, Black paper over boards, silver lettering. DJ Mint, as new not clipped $25.00.

New York City, NY: Random House, 1995. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. New York City, NY: Random House, 1995. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 388 pages. The author's debut nonfiction novel. John Berendt's finest achievement. Limited Slipcased Edition of 2500 copies. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, of which there are many. The Limited Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Random House: Regular-sized volume format. Black cloth boards with photographic reproduction of the cemetery statue pasted on the cover and metallic-green titles embossed on the spine, as issued. Text by John Berendt. Salmon satin ribbon marker. Vintage street map endpapers. Matching pictorial slipcase. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In publisher's original shrinkwrap. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its Limited Edition format, John Berendt's "Midnight In The Garden of Good And Evil: A Savannah Story". His masterpiece, a top bestseller for four uninterrupted years, in one of the most beautiful Limited Editions produced in our time. "Voodoo. Decadent socialites. Cotillions. With a town like Savannah, who needs Fellini? Takes two narrative strands, each worthy of its own book, and weaves them together to make a single fascinating tale. The first is John Berendt's loving depiction of the characters who prowled Savannah in the eight years it was his home away from home. On May 2, 1981, the book's second story commences, when Jim Williams, a wealthy antique dealer and Savannah's host with the most, kills his 'friend' Danny Hansford. Was it self-defense, as Williams claimed - or murder? The book sketches four separate trials, during which the dark side of this genteel party town is well and truly plumbed" (Publishers Weekly) . The basis of the fine film adaptation by Clint Eastwood, with brilliant performances by Kevin Spacey (Before The Fall) , John Cusack, the very young (and unrecognizable) Jude Law, and an outstanding supporting cast. An absolute "must-have" title for John Berendt collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Slipcased Edition of 2500 copies, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in black fountain pen by John Berendt. This title is a great book. This is one of few copies of the Limited Edition still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: A bestseller for four uninterrupted years, the book is presented in one of the most beautiful Limited Editions ever produced in our time. Copies available online have very serious flaws, are in innumerable subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the finest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JOHN BERENDT TITLE IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0679429220.
