Rowling (unlike the hardback and paperback first editions published on 26 June 1997), and full descending number line 10-down-to-1 to copyright page. 1/4,869 copies published on 27 September 1999, same date as the first deluxe editions of Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. Specifically created for the gift market, they were priced at £18 each. 1997 Nestlé Smarties Book Prize winner. Carnegie Medal 1997 commendation. Listed at number 22 in BBC's Big Read, 200 Best Novels, [2003]. The first book in Rowling's phenomenally successful seven-volume fantasy series, chronicling the orphaned Harry's adventures as he fulfills his destiny, plays Quidditch for Hogwarts, and defends the world against the evil wizard Voldemort. The idea of Harry Potter 'slid' into the mind of Joanne Rowling on a delayed train journey from Manchester to London in the summer of 1990, with the manuscript being completed early in 1996. UK rights were bought by Bloomsbury for an advance of £1,500, after HarperCollins, which also showed interest, was slow in making a definite offer. The title had previously been rejected by six other publishers. In a unique broadcasting event, BBC Radio 4 cleared its schedule on the FM frequency for 26 December 2000 and beginning at 12 noon, the complete text of Philosopher's Stone was read out by Stephen Fry. Translated into more than 80 languages, and having sold in excess of 600 million copies worldwide, the series has become a cultural mainstay, inspiring numerous film and stage adaptations, theme parks, and a vast array of merchandise. 1st Edition, 1st Printing of the UK Hardcover 1999. Full print line. This is in excellent condition with no damaged boards or fading which is common to the cloth editions. Amazing for a 24 year old title. The gilt page edges are very good with no major issues. Very Good Spine ends which can be a problem with the deluxe editions as they were shrink wrapped too tightly by the Publishers. Rare to find one in this condition. Prices have been rising with the imminent TV series to come in the near future. The book will be wrapped with the greatest of care and packed in a strong twin walled carton to arrive in pristine condition.

Here we have a complete set of the Deluxe First Editions. All 7 books are first printings. The Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows are sealed in their original wrappers but can be identified as first printings due to the first edition stickers on the rear of the wrappers. These were the first books to be released that were aimed at the collector market. They are larger than their trade counterparts and are handsomely bound in cloth rather than paper boards. The pages are stunningly edged in gold gilt which is also used for the titles and J.K. Rowling's facsimile signature. The first book to be issued in this series was actually The Prisoner of Azkaban in July 1999, simultaneously with the trade edition. The deluxe editions of the first two books were issued in September 1999. Thereafter the deluxe editions were published simultaneously alongside the trade editions. All 7 volumes are in fine condition. The are unread, perfectly square with sharp corners and tight bindings. A rare set to find in such condition with the final two volumes still sealed.
