Hardcover first edition - First American edition. A collection of fairy tales from the nations allied with Britain in The Great War - that is, World War I. illustrated with sixteen tipped in water color illustrations and a decorative line drawing on the title page of each story. Includes Snegorotchka from Russia, The Buried Moon from England, The Serpent Prince from Italy; The Hind of the Wood from France, White Caroline and Black Caroline from Flanders, The Fire Bird from Russia; Urashima Taro from Japan; The Story of the Bird Feng from China, and others. Large format. 173 pp. POOR condition in the original black and gold elaborately illustrated boards. The front cover is detached, but present, one tipped in plate is missing (p 159), some fraying and wear to the edges of the boards and the corners. Other than the missing plate the contents are very good - and this is a still appealing copy of a beautiful book at a reasonable price.

This item has been rebacked at some point, the spine has been replaced entirely and new end papers added. The green boards with the black horse design is stained has some damp damage, the titles in gilt are still bright. There is some foxing to the prelims and a little spotting throughout and a there are a couple of closed tears to the a page or two. the colour plates are all extant and the text is clear and bright A Fair copy of a scarce book. scans on request.

Decorated endpapers. 15 colour plates including frontispiece. 170 pages. Fair dustwrapper which has edge tears and chips the worst being at the spine ends where the word" Edmund" is missing at the head of the spine and the word "Stoughton" at the foot. The dustwrapper has been backed onto stiff paper for reinforcement and is protected in a removable cover. Internally the book is a lovely clean copy. Quite scarce in dustwrapper. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in a small amount of fraying to the cloth. Light marks to the boards, mostly to the rear board, with a faint damp stain to the rear joint and head of the board. Scattered spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Very Good

De-luxe edition limited to only 350 signed and numbered copies. 15 glorious tipped-in colour plates mounted on vellum, each mount edged with gold. White cloth elaborately decorated with gilt to front cover and spine. Vellum endpapers. Deckled edges. 170 pages. 11.5 x 9". SIGNED by Dulac to verso of a free front endpaper. This is Copy No. 52. Spine and edges are browned. Bump to bottom of spine. Some grubby marks to cloth. Surface paper damage to front pastedown, where it appears that something has been removed (possibly a bookplate). Front endpaper has inscriptions in ink; one crossed out, with tape glue marks, where again it appears that something has been removed. Rear pastedown also has some surface paper damage. Edge tear to margin on one contents page. Some darkening and grubby margin marks to pages. All plates are present and beautifully bright. Packaged with care and promptly dispatched!
