Two separate books hardly ever used in slip case in fine dj's slipcase is fancy 1934 Also have two other like books Little Papoose and Moons of Long ago in a different slipcase the dj are a bit slightly tear due to pulling in and out od slipcase.

Full contemporary calf binding with four slightly raised bands on spine. The lettering on the second and fourth compartments has completely faded. Marbled end papers and paste-downs; sewn text block. The binding is quite worn and the front hinge is a bit tender, but still tight. The previous owner's name is written in ink on front end page and there are pencil notations and some markings in the text. The bottom of the frontispiece and the first few pages are waterstained, but the fold-out map is still in nice condition.; The steel-engraved frontispiece is untitled-it appears to be a group of Protestant ministers on an island labeled "Truth" in a stormy sea safely above a group of Catholic leaders struggling not to drown surrounded by books and documents with titles such as "Lives Of The Saints" and "Bull." There is also a two-fold topographical map of "The Valleys Of Piedmont" which is in very nice condition. At the end of the History of the Waldenses is an engraving of theWaldensian symbol Lux lucet in tenebris ("A light shines in the darkness"). The Recommendatory Letter and a letter written by the editor were done for this American edition. The editor's letter (addressed to William Jay, president of the Westchester Bible Society) states that Perrin's history is of particular importance to American citizens because so many of them are descended from French Protestants who fled to America after the revocation of the Edict Of Nantes. Perrin's original introduction is dated 1618. Each of the three sections has a separate title page. "History Of The Waldenses" is divided into three sections: Origins, History and Historical Notes; "History Of The Old Albigenses Anterior To The Reformation": History until the persecutions of the thirteenth century, history of their latter wars until their suppression, and remains of their doctrine and discipline; "History Of The Ten Persecutions Of the Vaudois": history of the Valdois, an account of the tenth persecution, and an account of their wonderful return.; 8vo 8"-9" tall; 475 p. pages; Originally published in the early 1600s, Perrin's history is considered a classic of Waldenses history. The Waldenses orginated as an asectic Christian movement in the 12th century and became in conflict with the Catholic Church and were persecuted for their beliefs. In 1532, they aligned themselves with the Protestants and identified with the Calvinist movement. This is a scarce, comprehensive history of the Waldenses originally written in the early 1600s. It may be the first American editon of Perrin's book.
