This is a scarce, antique copy of "Taintor's Route and City Guides" - this particular guide is for the "Pennsylvania Coal Regions via Morris & Essex R.R." Published in 1867 by Taintor Brothers in New York. The guide features 4 color maps; the "Map of the Anthracite Coal Regions of Pennsylvania with Connecting Railways" is larger and folds out. "With sketches of the cities, villages, stations, scenery, and objects of interest along the route." There are illustrated advertisements at both the front and back. Please see the photos for the complete list of contents. Condition: The pages are in great condition - mostly clean and white with no writing and only some very sparse light foxing; tiny tear at the outer edge of page 29. The fold-out map is clean and firmly attached. The covers are present, but have detached from the spine and are separated along the right edge of the spine; creases at the left-hand corners of the front cover; there are a few tiny stain spots on the back cover.

The guide features 20 color maps in all. "With descriptive sketches of the cities, villages, stations, and of scenery and objects of interest along the route" by H.F. Walling. There are illustrated advertisements at both the front and back. Condition: The pages are in great condition - mostly clean and white with no writing and only some trace foxing at the top margin of pages 11-16, a light stain at the lower-outer edge of pages 6 & 7, and a 1/2" tear at the outer edge of the advertisement page between pages 4 & 5. The covers have detached from the spine; the top and bottom pieces of the spine (about 1" and 1/2" respectively) are missing; light stains at the top-right corner of the front cover; a dime-sized layer of paper has peeled off at the bottom-right corner of the back cover.

This is a scarce, early copy of "Taintor's Route and City Guides" - this particular guide is for "New York to Saratoga, Buffalo, and Niagara Falls, via Hudson River and New York Central Railroads." Published in 1867 by Taintor Brothers in New York. The guide features 20 color maps in all. "With descriptive sketches of the cities, villages, stations, and scenes and objects of interest along the route." There are illustrated advertisements at both the front and back. The guide is divided into 2 sections, as follows: * Hudson River Railway Route - New York, Albany, Troy, Saratoga (with 7 color maps) * The New York Central Railway and its Branches (with 13 color maps) Condition The top-right corner of the front cover is torn; surface paper tear at the bottom-right edge of the back cover. The front cover is separated 1.5" down from the top and 1" up from the bottom of the spine (though holding fine at the center) - similar with the back cover. No loose text pages. The pages are in very good condition - mostly clean with no writing found; the only condition issue is that there's a bug hole at the beginning of the book at the upper-outer corner up to page 26.

This is a scarce, early copy of "Taintor's Route and City Guides" - this particular issue is for the "NORWICH LINE - New York to Boston and the White Mountains, Via New London, Norwich, Worcester, Lake Winnipiseogee (now "Winnipesaukee"), Plymouth, or Littleton." Published in 1868 by Taintor Brothers in New York. With attached large (8-panel) fold-out "Map of The Route to the White Mountains" in color. The guide contains illustrated advertisements at both the front and back. The guide includes "descriptive sketches of the cities, villages, stations, and scenes and objects of interest along the route." Condition: Stain spots to the covers (the stain at the top-left corner of the back cover also has a hole through it); the back cover has some light pencil writing; paper cover missing from the top and bottom edges of the spine; the front cover has a 1.5" tear at the bottom near spine. No loose pages. The map is securely attached at the spine and folds nicely in and out. The map had torn vertically (and was separated) and was repaired on the back-side using what appears to be a piece of tissue paper placed over the segments and pasted down. The last 4 pages of ads have "burn"/stain spots (that correspond with the spots on the back cover) that get gradually lighter and smaller until they disappear. Other than these last 4 pages, the inside is very clean with no other stains, tears or writing.

Illust, 24 x 19, folding color map, 6.75 x 4.5, wraps, 82+ city street directory and many ads, covers browned, spine cover partially lacking, foxing to pp where map is (map vg) and edges, LACKS TITLE PAGE, as is.
