Publisher: Country Life... Date published: 1931 Format: Hardcover

Lovely 1st edition hardcover in green cloth with an almost moire pattern is ruled in dark green with green titles. Extremities bumped, lower tips just rubbed through. Tasteful b/w woodblock style fish and frog bookplate on multicolored green/pink endpapers of Arthur F. Mead. Endpapers and pages lightly age toned at periphery but no unsightly foxing. 91 pps of text plus 22 glorious full page dry point plates, on matte ecru stock same as the heavy gage text, all were pre-signed by the artist prior to publishing and are complete with titles, suitable for framing. Unclipped, original dust wrapper is chipped on the edges, spine panel completely missing but still displays well from the front with a large illustration of an angler sitting on a chair in the tall grass with his hook in the water, watching the waterline. An absolutely charming fireside companion for any real life or armchair angler (or anglerette). This book gives glimpses of the river and the rod from many standpoints, and Mr. Chalmers does not confine himself to the conventional. He is a catcher of coarse-fish equally with trout and salmon and much of his coarse-fishing has been done in the Thames. Norman Wilkinson's Dry points make the book a remarkable one, for it is seldom that an author and an artist, both of distinction, contrive so successfully to collaborate.
