The Angler's Souvenir
by FISHER, P.
A finely bound copy of the 1877 new edition of this classic. The full crimson leather binding, with gilt rules and decoration to the front and rear boards, and gilt decoration, raised bands and gilt titles to the spine, is in very good, tight condition, with just a few minor marks. The 311-page text is in very good, tight, clean condition, with only a little light age-browning to a few pages and a very small, light, blank margin edge stain to the corner of several pages. Many excellent tissue-guraded plates and text engravings by Beckwith and Topham. Old bookplate of "Gayton Cottage". No inscriptions. Marbled end papers. See photographs attached.

THE ANGLER'S SOUVENIR. By P. Fisher. A New Edition. Edited by G. Christopher Davies. With illustrations by Beckwith & Topham.
by Chatto (William Andrew). ("P. Fisher"). (1799-1864).
(Hardcover, 1886). (1835) 1886 new (third) edition. 4to (180 x 220mm). Pp311. Engraved frontispiece, title-page & 31 copper-engraved plates, woodcut page borders. Binding A. Green cloth, spine & upper board titled in gilt, gilt vignette of a pile of fish on upper board, bevelled edges, top edge gilt, patterned end-papers, tissue guards. The engraved frontispiece, title-page and plates are printed on India paper, and tipped in (pasted onto the stiff paper pages). Slight wear. Frontispiece loose o/w a very good copy. A nice collection of Nineteenth Century angling anecdotes and essays - from Ellesmere pike to Highland salmon. Despite the assertion in the Supplement to Bibliotheca Piscatoria that this edition was limited to 250 copies, I suspect that the issue in green cloth was not limited, and that this referred only to the vellum-bound issue. .
