Boards quite faded at spine and edges, some little foxing to endsheets, small red initial ownership chop in corner of front free endsheet, spine ends a trifle toned, tiny bookseller's label on rear pastedown, otherwise very good. Condition good, cover is faded around each edge, spine sunned, corners edges and spine ends rubbed. Internally in very clean bright condition throughout. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

FIRST EDITION, pp. 42, crown 8vo, original blue boards printed in black to upper board and backstrip, with the exception of lower board largely faded with a little wear at extremities, faint shelfmark at foot of backstrip (see below), the front endpapers with the ownership inscription of Dorothy Elmhirst and the stamp of Dartington Hall (see below), good. An interesting association copy, being that of Dorothy Elmhirst of Dartington Hall - she née Whitney and the daughter of US statesman William Collins Whitney. (Woolmer 207)

Cross & Ravenscroft-Hulme A.19(a); Woolmer 207. *Lacking the orange wrap-around band stating 'By the Author of The Land, which was awarded the Hawthornden Prize. This is her latest book of poems since The Land.' All but four of the nineteen poems were previously unpublished.

Black cloth with printed yellow paper labels affixed to spine and upper board; uncoated yellow paper dust jacket is darkened on spine panel and along flap folds, is generally and lightly shelf soiled, has minor wear ends of spine panel, a 1/2" tear top of rear panel, and there is a partial tea-coloured ring on front panel. Author is member of the Bloomsbury group; this is "a sequence of exquisitely wrought lyrics".
