Tall octavo, burgundy cloth boards decorated in gilt, colour plates, biblography, 48 pp. Near-fine conditiom in like original dec gilt slipcase with ribbon tie. Le Livre Du Cueur D'Amours Espris (The Book of the Love Struck Heart) was written in 1457 by Rene of Anjou, the Duke of Anjou and Count of Provence, and exquisitely illustrated by his court painter Barthelemy de Cler (or d'Eyck). It fuses the conventions of Arthurian romance with an allegory of love based on the Romance of the Rose. This edition reproduces the plates, with commentaries.
