8vo 8"-9" tall; 300 pages; 1st American edition. Volume I only (of two) In original drab blue paper covered boards; spine perished and lacking. Front board detached and rear board holding by cords. Retains two blank original endpages at front and rear. Dampstaining to the last 1/3 of the text appears to be from two discrete damp events. A heavy tea colored toning across the lower front corner of the last 90 pages and a ligheter tea colored damp stain over the lower 1/2 of the page of the last 100 or so pages. Toning and foxing to the text block. Contents complete. Sold as is with all faults. Poor to Fair only.

There is an index to the rear of the first volume. xx+1053pp. Half-bound in original leather with marbled paper to remainder. There is a red morocco title-plate to upper spines. The spines are heavily rubbed. Marbled paper is rubbed. Edges of boards are rubbed. All page edges have red speckling. End papers have likely been replaced professionally. Occasional foxing to various pages but heavier to front's., title page and glassine paper. Previous owners name written to top of title page, looks to be near contemporary. The first volume's glassine protection is missing, the seconds becoming detached. Text-blocks are in excellent condition. Heavy books, additional postage request likely.

O'Meara, Napoleon's surgeon who accompanied him to Saint Helena, an Island to which he was exiled by the British. The work provides details on Napoleon's reflections and thoughts during this time. The work also accused Sir Hudson Lowe of mistreating Napoleon. Bound in half calf with marbled paper on the boards. Externally generally smart with rubbing to the boards, joints and extremities, bumping to the extremities of the boards, marks to the boards and spines and fading to the spines. The odd spot and mark to the endpapers with a past owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper and hinges starting to 'Vol II'. Internally generally firmly bound with front blank starting to 'Vol II'. Pages age toned with spotting and occasional marks. Good.
