London: Printed, and to be sold by B. Bragg, at the Blew-ball in Ave-mary-lane, 1706. First Edition, First Impression . Full Leather. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Bound in full calf. Original panelled calf relaid on later burgundy leather, recently rebacked in brown calf with five raised bands and new red leather gilt title label. Replacement endpapers which are lightly marked and partly cracked along hinges. Contents are browned and foxed throughout but this doesn't affect legibility. Early ink inscription of J Beaumont to bottom margin of title page. Pencil bookseller's inscription to ffep regarding the author/biographer George Cavendish who was gentleman-usher to Woolsey and one of his closest confidantes. Cavendish's biography of Woolsey was first published as 'The Negotiations of Cardinal Woolsey' in 1641. Cavendish is not named as author here. 'The Memoirs of Cardinal Woolsey' is followed by William Cecil's 'A Memorial Presented to Queen Elizabeth Against Her Majesty's being Engrossed by any Particular Favourite'. Half-title, title, preface, 230 pp, 1 pp publisher's ad. after Memoirs and 2 pp after Memorial. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed for, and insured.
