16 1/8" x 29", and 27 5/8" x 14 1/8" within the neat line; ½" closed tear on left map margin where attached to wrapper, extending through the neat line; very good. The Senate committee suggested the building at least two new rail lines, one Northern and one Southern, arguing two were needed to promote commerce. They also argued that the lines were necessary for communication, for the military, and to "settle the Indian question" "They can only be permanently conquered by railroad".
