New York: Farrar & Rinehart, Inc, 1942. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. With a TLS on Rex Stout letterhead, signed by Stout. Good in a Good jacket, unclipped but scratched out, generally soiled, faded at the spine, chipped at the edges, a large closed tear on the back panel. Orange cloth, rubbed at the bottom edge, pushed at the head and foot of the spine, black lettering on the spine and front board. Square, hinges loose, clean otherwise. An early collection of two of Stout's Nero Wolfe novellas, "Black Orchids" and "Cordially Invited to Meet Death.
Synopsis
Black Orchids is a Nero Wolfe double mystery by Rex Stout published in 1942 by Farrar & Rinehart, Inc. Stout's first short story collection, the volume is composed of two novellas that had appeared in abridged form in The American Magazine: "Black Orchids" (August 1941, abridged as "Death Wears an Orchid") "Cordially Invited to Meet Death" (April 1942, abridged as "Invitation to Murder")
